Plant indigenous plants in your garden to provide food and shelter for native birds and animals.
Before purchasing a plant, check to see that it is not a 'pest' plant.
If you are lucky enough to live near the reserves, ensure that plants from your garden do not escape and become accidental invaders.
Ensure that your bins, recyclables, newspapers are thoroughly secured on rubbish nights. Wind blown rubbish ends up in our waterways.
Buy environmentally friendly cleaning products. Select detergents that are biodegradable and phosphate free. Phosphates encourage weed and algae growth in waterways and can starve other organisms of oxygen.
Avoid the use of pesticides, fertilizers, weed killers in the garden wherever possible
Refrain from tipping chemicals, cooking oil, milk, food scraps etc. into sinks or drains.
Maintain your car. Leaking oil etc. ends up in the storm water system
Wash your car on the grass (or at the car wash) well clear of storm water drains.
Keep tabs on your tabby. Cats and dogs can be wildlife killers.
