Nursery and Reserves Special Events Achievements Campaigns

Some of our fantastic helpers .jpg 9kNursery and Reserves 2007

1. Clean Up Australia Day, March 2007

Rubbish was collected from three sites. Thank you to all who assisted.

2. Waterwatch & Fish Survey

Waterwatch:
Voluntary monitoring of the creek commenced officially in February 2005.

Fish Survey:
Surprisingly there has never been an official Fish Survey carried out. KCA has been successful in obtaining a grant of $700 from Melbourne Water to do a fish survey in conjunction with the Victorian Museum.

It is proposed to conduct quarterly surveys at a number of locations in the creek over a 12 month period. This will allow us to assess the distribution of fish species at different times of the year along the length of the creek. A sample of the fish species found will be housed at the museum in their permanent fish collection.

Knowing what species inhabit the creek over the period of a year will enable us to better understand the role the Creek plays in the overall health of Port Phillip Bay and help in the management of this important waterway.

If you would you like to help call Alison on 97664304.

Special Events

Celebration Day 2007

Over 600 visitors, canoes fully booked, a well attended walk, and 100 photographers exhibiting - all culminating in a very successful Celebration Day.

Thank you to everyone who joined in the celebrations making Kananook Creek Celebration Day such a successful and enjoyable community event.

A special thank you to all who donated their time and energy on, and pior to the day.

Achievements

A Major Milestone Achieved (2005) - the completion of the Fiocchi Ave to Beach St section of trail directly linking the reserves to the business district.

With the help of FCC and Melbourne Water, we have realized one of the key goals that the KCA has strived for since its foundation in February 1970. The creeks reserves are now accessible for more than 7.5 km from Carrum to central Frankston.

Campaigns

In 2004, the KCA launched a revitalized publicity campaign to promote the Kananook.

Attention has focused upon three Key Outcomes:
1. Canoe the Kananook
2. The Kananook Walking Track
3. The Eastbank Precinct (Beach Street to Daveys Hotel)
