The Jewish Community School, Melbourne, Australia |
Enrollments for the 2004 school year are now open. Please download the form, which includes contact information.

The Jewish Community School and Bar/Bat mitzvah program is a community celebration which reinforces Jewish identitiy, humanistic behaviour and community solidarity. We have been in existence for over 10 years, and receive assistance from the Victorian Department of Education's Ethnic School's program.
The school is parent-managed, and also provides a good social point for many of us, not just the kids! The school camp and other holiday celebrations are informal get-togethers, and the bar/bar mitzvah event is a great occasion for families to share a coming of age event.

" Saturday school is fun, not just hard work. Jewish history is really good because every time we finish a section, we write a poem, do a play or something so we remember it well."
"I like this school because it is fun and different from other schools."
"Everyone is really friendly. It's very different from school. We play games, do work and discuss things. You can say how you feel about anything. We learn interesting stuff."
" I like it because I have lots of friends and I have a really great time. It's really interesting because the more I learn about the stories the more knowledge I have."
> If you want your child/children to be fully aware of their Jewish identity, OR..
> Perhaps you do not have a strong affiliation with the religious Jewish community, have an inter-cultural relationship, but still want your children to learn about their Jewish origins, OR..
> If you have to "battle" with your children to get them to attend a traditional Sunday school ...
If your answer to any of the above is "yes", then the Jewish Community School, a school established to provide a vital link in a modern world, is the answer for you and your family.
We place emphasis on an informal, yet structured approach and encourage and foster student participation. Our creative teaching methods are adapted to student needs in a way that makes learning fun and not a chore. Our classes stress the values of care responsibility, fairness and human dignity.
Our Bar/Batmitzvah program is unique. It is a "hands on" program that integrates students' personal experiences with a variety of Jewish themes. It provides a relevant and memorable passage into young adulthood for Jewish teenagers.
