BIOGRAPHY OF JOHN PANDAZOPOULOS MP
 
John Pandazopoulos has served as your hard working Member for Dandenong since he was first elected in 1992.
The Dandenong Electorate covering the townships of Dandenong, Dandenong North, Doveton, Eumemmerring, and part of Noble Park, Keysborough, , and Endeavour Hills is rich in cultural diversity.
 
John  has lived in the Dandenong /  Doveton area for most of his life.   He was a student at Doveton North Primary School, Doveton High School and also studied accounting at Hallam High School.  At Monash University, John gained a Bachelor of Arts Degree and also served as Secretary of the Monash Association of Students from 1982 – 1984.  John has two children who attend a local Primary school in Dandenong and Participate in local sports clubs.
 
From 1987 to 1992 John served as a Senior Organiser with the Finance Sector Union.  Previous to that he was a staff member and later Manager at McDonalds, mainly at Dandenong and Keysborough.
 
John served as Councillor for the then City of Berwick from 1987 to 1991.   He was Mayor for the City of Berwick from 1990 – 1991 at the age of 27, making him one the youngest ever Mayors elected in Victoria.
 
As Councillor, John was Chair of the Doveton Cluster of Schools, President of the then Myuna Community Farm Committee of Management, Olive Reserve Committee of Management, Public Officer for Doveton Neighbourhood Place and was involved directly with many other local community organisations.

John was first elected to State Parliament in 1992 at the age of 29, then making him one of the youngest Members of Parliament.

While in Opposition, John served as spokesman for Racing, Tourism, Sport and Recreation, Consumer Affairs and Multicultural Affairs. John  was also at that time a spokesman on Freedom of Information and on Waste and Mismanagement.
 
Between 1992 and 1999 John was a member of the State Parliament’s Environment and Natural Resources Committee.
 
Between 1999 - 2006  Mr Pandazopoulos  held  the following Ministerial Portfolios :
  •  Tourism and Major Events 1999 - 2006
  • Gaming 1999 -2006
  • Racing    2002 - 2006
  • Major Projects 1999 - 2002
  • Employment  2002
  • Assisting the Premier on Multicultural Affairs 1999 - 2006

 

Currently, John serves as the State Member for Dandenong and Chairman  - State Parliament Environment  and National Resources Committee
