The Australian Documentary Conference is one of Australia’s largest and most prestigious film conferences. It is viewed by the Australian film and television industry as an essential biennial event and, since its establishment in 1987, attendance levels have risen dramatically with over 500 delegates from Australia and abroad attending at Sydney in 1993.

This year’s Conference promises to be no exception. The fourth Conference positions itself firmly within the wider international arena and will examine issues and themes relevant to the world documentary industry as well as those particular to the Australian industry. It will provide a vital forum for delegates to engage with their peers in a stimulating environment, as well as meet others who are involved in providing services to the industry. In an exciting initiative, the general public will also become involved through the inaugural Discovery Channel Documentary Film Festival, a selection of which will be toured by the AFI to other state capitals for a two day exhibition. The Conference is operated on a not-for-profit basis and is funded by government and public grants, corporate and in-kind sponsorship and delegates’ fees.
