With some 65 sessions scheduled, the broadly-based Conference program incorporates
a variety of features including:
- A large number of screenings in the state-of-the-art George Cinema Complex;
- A full multimedia strand with such hands-on sessions as Practicalities of New
Media Production, and The Internet as a Research Tool - computer points will be
set up where delegates will be able to access the Internet and trial some of the new
multimedia projects being made by their peers;
- Documart, a half-day forum similar to the extremely successful and exciting
Market Day held at the Amsterdam Documentary Film Festival, at which
filmmakers will have the opportunity to pitch their ideas for new productions to a
panel comprising national and international television and distribution companies;
- And continuing the work of the 1993 Conference, a focus on the documentaries of
the Asia-Pacific region with the launch of the NETPAC (Network for the
Promotion of Asian Cinema) 1996 Asian Film Discovery program.
The Conference Program will incorporate different types of sessions to suit everyone:
- Plenary sessions: In-depth examination of the topical issues confronting
documentary film makers today
- Forums: For debate and discussion
- Networking spaces: Planned and informal sessions where Australian film makers
can meet with local and international television buyers, producers and distributors
- Workshop and Craft sessions: Focusing on practical or technical areas of the
documentarists’ work
- Information sessions: More on new technologies, working abroad, using archives,
etc.
- Action sessions: Identifying the real concerns of the Australian documentary
industry
- Spotlight sessions: On selected filmmakers
- Screenings: Participating delegates will present their work
