The Wonnangatta Valley

In the middle of the Victorian Alps, nestled in the Great Dividing Range, lies the Wonnangatta Valley. This area contains much of the most spectacular and beautiful wilderness areas that can be found in Victoria. Surrounded in history, mystified by intriguing stories, the area provides unlimited adventure for bush walkers, four wheel drivers, ski-tourers and anyone else with a love of wild country.

Wonnangatta Valley
Camping The Wonnangatta ranges from alpine snow plains, high mountain spurs jutting above the tree lined ridges, to deep wooded valleys and rugged gorges. It is surrounded with tall mountain forest ranging from the gnarled and stunted Snowgums found high on the top of the range down through Alpine Ash, Bluegums, Peppermint, Candlebark, Swampgums and Mountain gums. On the forest floor can be found a wide variety of wildflowers and other plant life. 320 million year old fossils can be found along the Howett Spur while 500 million year old fossils of trilobite have been found near the Dolodrook and Wellington Rivers.
