Cross Cultural
Training
The Inner Western Region
Migrant Resource Centre provides in-house cross cultural training and information sessions
to mainstream service providers and government departments.
Our training and information
sessions are designed to meet the specific needs of your organisation.
Cross cultural training
can contribute to:
Increase staff productivity by developing effective communication skills and problem
solving appropriate for dealing with people from non-English speaking background.
Increase awareness and sensitivity amongst service providers of the needs of their
migrant clients.
Assist service providers in maximising the benefits of having a diversity of cultures
in their working environment, leisure activities, business, arts, etc.
Why should choose the
IWR MRC to run your training and information sessions?
The IWR MRC works closely with migrant communities and community leaders in the West
and is in tune with their needs and issues.
Our staff consists of bilingual workers with extensive experience and knowledge in
working with recently-arrived communities.
Our daily case work provides us with a good grasp of the issues our migrant and refugee
communities face daily.
The IWR MRC maintains several databases with up to date listings of the region's
community groups; including elderly groups, disability support groups, carer's support
groups, women's groups, social and recreational groups, youth groups and others.
Our Settlement Planning Unit compiles demographic data on a regular basis, identifying
emerging trends in settlement needs through analysis of the settler arrivals data supplied
by the Department of Immigration and Multicultural Affairs (DIMA), our own client data and
statistical data from other organisations.
The IWR MRC organises regular consultative activities such as conferences, forums,
workshops and focus groups to ensure that the settlement needs of newly arrived migrants
and refugees are fed into the planning of community services in the region.
