WHAT IS IFFA?

IFFA is dedicated to the future of the Australian flora and fauna,
whether in habitats of world heritage quality or in the urban back yard.

This is done by combining ecological theory with practice.

The theory
centres around the issue
of genetic provenance,
where genetic diversity
is influenced by local factors
across the range of an organism.

To sustain its evolutionary potential
a plant, animal (or fungus!)
must be able to maintain
its genetic diversity.
This biodiversity is the key
to sustainable ecosystems

The practice
involves working with and
understanding local factors.
For instance, remnant habitat is
managed to prevent degradation:
  • weeds are cleared and host plants replenished to encourage fauna
  • local seed is collected, grown on, and used in revegetation
  • development is encouraged to integrate with the local flora and fauna, rather than obliterate it.

Below are a number of links which will give you a great deal more information about IFFA and issues related to indigenous flora and fauna. Enjoy!
