The society was formed in 1979.
It publishes a newsletter posted to all financial members and arranges
excursions to hydroponic farms.

Meetings are held on the third Sunday each month (except December and January)
usually from 10am to midday.  Details are published in the newsletter.
Prospective members should contact the president for information on the next meeting location.

What is Hydroponics?
__________________________________________________________________________

Hydroponics is a method of growing plants without soil.

Instead of relying on the soil to provide the various elements required for plant growth, ingredients containing these elements are dissolved in the water so when the plants are irrigated, they are fertilized at the same time. To anchor the plants so that they remain upright, inert materials such as gravel, scoria, river sand, perlite, vermiculite or rockwools are often used. Whether grown in soil or without soil, plants require exactly the same conditions:
