| Free BMD |
This is an online searchable database being compiled by voluteers, of the St Catherines House records of Great Britain.
While far from complete it now has most records from the 1800's.
The other option is spending hours with the microfich at the State Library or the GSV.
These records are from the start of civil registration, around 1830 in Great Britain

| Family Search |
These are mostly pre civil registration records compiled by the Mormon Church (LDS)
They are free searchable records, plus you can obtain a list of films they have made of actual church records
These can be hired for viewing at LDS centre's or the GSV

| NSW Records |
Many of these are free online searchable indexes of BMD in New South Wales.
Remember that Victoria was part of NSW in the early days of Australia
Pity the other States do not follow their example

| National Archives of Australia |
Austrlian archives, with family history help, some may be free online, worth a look anyway

| National Archives England |
One of the main centre's of records in England, has some searchable records, mostly pay per view.

Run by the National Archives is user friendly for family historians.

| General Registary Office England |
A further part of the English records system, here you can order certificates online.

| Commonwealth War Graves |
Any serviceman lost in the Second World War from a Commonwealth Country wil be recorded here
There may also be other details, and his service number needed to obtain other records.

As most British WW1 military records were destroyed by bombing in WW2, you may find these records of some help.

An online seachable database of all services in WW2. Give place of birth and date of birth.
