OUR NEW (OLD) PUBLICATION

THE HISTORY OF ST KILDA
by

John Butler Cooper

(On-Line)

The publishing of an on-line version of the History of St Kilda 1840 -1930 has long been a cherished dream of the St Kilda Historical Society. This milestone project enables free and efficient access to the only comprehensive written record of  St Kilda’s early history. Equally important are the 119 outstanding photos and illustrations. The general reader, historian, student, researcher and journalist  will reap the benefits of this collaborative work completed with support from Society members, the Victorian Government’s community support fund, the City of Port Phillip and consultant John Hulskamp.

Established early in the 19th Century, St Kilda is the historic seaside resort of Melbourne, Australia.

The St Kilda Historical Society Inc. is a non-profit organisation that was established in 1970 to foster historical interest in and knowledge of St Kilda, Elwood and the surrounding areas.

The Society is active in ensuring the historic character of the area is preserved as far as possible and is indebted to our many volunteers who generously donate their energies towards these ends.

The St Kilda Historical Society is affiliated with the Royal Historical Society of Victoria.

Restoring the Crest of St Kilda
The Crest of the City of St Kilda is a jewel in the crown of the St Kilda Historical Society. In 2008 it was put on display in the St Kilda Library. In 2009 The Society commissioned a conservator to restore the crest to its former glory. The story of that restoration is available at restoring the crest, a youtube offering.
