Artwork: Watercolour painting of seascape.

Watercolour painting uses paint that comprises water and pigment. When the water dries, the pigment is retained on the surface.

The fluidity and translucence of watercolours enables the artist to blend colours as the pigments in water merge across the surface. The strength of the colour is determined by the amount of water mixed into the paint. Less water will give an opaque appearance, more water will give a transparent wash.
