In hand knitting, a minimum of two long, slender needles with a point at one end and a knob at the other (to prevent stitches dropping off) is used to create an intertwined yarn fabric. Loops of yarn are worked on and off the needles as each row is created.

Craftwork: Detail of a knitted jumper/sweater.

Using lightweight yarn, delicate babywear can be produced, metallic yarn and a lacy knit pattern can create an exquisite evening shawl, or heavier wool yarn can make a warm jumper/sweater for cold days.
