Embossing on
paper involves two types of processes to add a
raised design to the paper:
-
The paper is slightly stretched by rubbing it
over a metal template using a ball-tipped
embossing tool. When the paper is
turned over, the embossed design is apparent.
-
The other type of embossing involves the use of
embossing powder. A design is drawn
or stamped using embossing ink - this
ink remains wet long enough for the powder
to be sprinkled on. Excess powder is removed
and then heat is applied to melt the
powder, producing a raised effect in the
shape of the design. This method works
extremely well if fine lettering is required
on greeting cards, for example.
