Craftwork: Baby's bonnet in 'Shell' crochet stitches.

Crochet is a French word meaning 'hook'.

A crochet hook is a needle with a hook at one end around which yarn is looped and hooked on and off to create a repetitive pattern. It is a very versatile craft where one may produce delicate cotton tableware to thick, warm clothing.

In Tunisian crochet (also known as Tricot crochet), loops are left on the long crochet hook, which resembles a knitting needle with a hook at one end, as one row is worked. On the next row, these loops are crocheted off the needle.
