June 2004 - The Magic of Clear Communications

At our June meeting, Lorraine Bambrough-Kelly who now runs My Domain Gift Shop at the Croydon Market, after a long career in publishing and as a publisher and author of children's Books and Anthea Bibby of Write it Rite also an author as well as being an editor, proof reader and writing consultant shared their broad experience in written communication.

Anthea looked at the many roles and advantages of effective written communications. She outlined the basic rules of good writing and then covered many of the secrets to finding inspiration and overcoming writer's block.

Then together with Lorraine she lead a class exercise where different groups came up with names and a marketing description for various hypothetical shampoos.

Lorraine, then talked about the basics of writing good copy and designing effective marketing material. She then went through examples both good and bad of flyers, newsletters and local paper advertisements and analysed each to reinforce the messages of the night,
