April 2006 - Set Yourself up for a Secure Future

While the atmosphere was, as usual, very friendly and supportive, this month’s networking evening was very much about serious matters. Our expert panel provided a range of sound advice about securing our businesses from a legal, insurance and finance point of view.

Sarina Cowle looked at the relative merits of different business structures, and gave us some simple strategies to minimise risk. Bendigo Bank’s Ray Tonnison’s advised on dealing with banks and securing a line of credit, and Duncan Howarth outlined some of the insurance products of particular relevance to home-based business. A delicious supper and great networking followed the lively question time.

Even, highly experienced home-based operators like Peter Feeney were able to learn lessons they weren't aware of. Issues like, how Professional Indemnity Insurance is different from all other policies and the significant ramifications of renewing it a day late.

Others learnt how not all Bendigo banks are community banks and what that difference means. Or how about the growing importance and significance of specialisation in the fields of law and what "branding" of lawyers means to you when seeking advice.
