We also have Matthew Manning's diploma (in Latin) giving details of his thesis or "exhibition' of his knowledge". He had to undergo
several examinations of various cases, a few of which were examination of blood in the urine; explain Section 6 of Hippocrates; and
discussion of the "Phenomenen of Breathing" and then had a debate on respiration which he 'defended with outstanding readiness'. In
conclusion, he was pronounced a Doctor of Medicine by John de Gorter,Doctor of Philosophy and Medicine, giving him the right to have 'a
Doctor's Chair wherever his lawful occupation takes him.'The Great Seal of the Academy of the Duchy of Gelria dated 1745.
