2. WILLIAM DE TRACY² JARDINE (ROBERT¹)⁽²⁶⁾ was born Bangor, Maine, U.S.A. 1840-2. WILLIAM died 26 March, 1908. Garlick's Lead, Newbury, Kynetonshire, Vic. Australia., at 67 years of age.

He married twice. He married an unknown person Emerald Hill, Victoria, Australia, 1859. He married ELIZABETH BATEMAN 2nd wife in Newbury, near Trentham, Victoria, 22 April 1876. ELIZABETH was born Fryerstown, Victoria, Australia. 1857. ELIZABETH was the daughter of EDWIN BATEMAN and JANE EDMONDS. At 19 years of age ELIZABETH became the mother of MARY JARDINE 1876. At 21 years of age ELIZABETH became the mother of ELIZABETH JARDINE Learmouth District at 'The Spr, 1878. At 24 years of age ELIZABETH became the mother of WILLIAM DE TRACY JARDINE Blackwood, Victoria, Australia., 1881. At 26 years of age ELIZABETH became the mother of EDWIN JARDINE Learmouth District, at'The Springs'., 1883. At 28 years of age ELIZABETH became the mother of LOUISA JARDINE Learmouth District, at 'The Springs', Victoria, Aus, 1885. At 30 years of age ELIZABETH became the mother of ELLEN JARDINE 1887. There is a mystery regarding the arrival of William de Tracy Jardine in Australia. There is a story within the family that he was a seaman who jumped ship in Western Australia and changed his name from "William de Tracy" to " William Jardine". But the discovery of a marriage at South Leith, Midlothian, Scotland between Robert Jardine and Mary Renton on th IGI on 8/4/1825 - the same names given as William's parents on his 2nd Marriage and Death cerificates seems to confirm that his surname was always Jardine. A record of his birth has not been found. At his marriage to Elizabeth Bateman and the Birth Certificate of at least one of his children, his birthplace is given as Bangor, Maine, U.S.A. His death certificate states that he was born at sea and this also is possible. His parents might have been aboard ship and berthed at port in Maine at the time he was born - just passing through- which could explain why a birth certificate has not been found. He married twice.
