Musical Director

Our Musical Director is Mathew Reynolds.

Mathew has had over 15 years of experience playing brass and percussion instruments in a mixture of concert and brass bands around Melbourne. During this time he has performed in numerous State and National Championships around Australia, plus the 2008 New Zealand National Championships in the ‘A’ Grade Brass Section for which he played percussion.

The experience he has gained by playing with a variety of bands and under different Musical Directors has led him to believe that each band takes its own unique approach to the music. It’s not only what is written on the page that is important, it is vital to ensure the basic fundamentals are constantly being addressed such as: intonation; balance; style; and transparency to mention a few.

Mathew first joined the HBCB playing trumpet in 2001 before later taking on the position of Musical Director in 2006. With the combination of his musical experience and his passion for music and teaching, he brings a fresh new approach to directing the band and strives to get the most out of every musician, regardless of age or experience.
