The Hobsons Bay City Band is a growing community
based, non-profit organisation based in the City of Hobsons Bay.
Originally, the band rehearsed in the City
of Wyndham where, in September 1996, it was registered and performed as
the Wyndham Symphonic Band Incorporated (WSB). From here the band rapidly
grew from a small group of musicians into a band of over 20 producing
a strong, clear sound.
March 1999 saw the band move rehearsals to
St. Paul's College, Altona North, and thus entering into the City of Hobsons
Bay. In 2007 the band moved from St Paul’s college to the Historic
School Altona Meadows. Around the time of the change to St. Paul's College,
the Hobsons Bay City Council considered the lack of local bands in the
area and began a search for a band to fit the role. The former WSB won
this bid and in 2000, it was appointed as the 'official' band for the
City of Hobsons Bay. This appointment saw a change of name and uniform
and increased support from the Council.
The band's musical repertoire covers a wide
range of music and musical styles such as:
Movie soundtracks
TV-show themes
Classical
Big-band
Contemporary
Hymns
Plus many more
The musical library is constantly being updated and new titles purchased
to ensure the band has a selection of musical titles available to suit
almost any situation or function.
The HBCB is an active part of the Community and performs at various functions
and venues in the local area. Past performances include the Williamstown,
Bayside, Laverton and Weerama Festivals; school fetes; Community markets
and local shopping centres such as Werribee plaza. Also on the list are
Carols by Candlelight at Werribee Park; the opening of the new wing at
the Williamstown Hospital and meetings of the local Lions and Rotary Clubs.
The HBCB would like to invite musicians from all age groups and musical
backgrounds to participate. Here they can expand their musical knowledge
and appreciation whilst striving to achieve high standards in musical
performance. Membership offers the opportunity to participate on the Committee
opening doors to not only share their enjoyment of music, but also gain
management and communication skills.
