OUR FOUNDER, Trevor Osborne, sent us an interesting piece on "Attitude" which could be described as relationship to self and responses to daily situations. I saw a unique connection between it and two other unrelated contributions awaiting publication. First, a meaningful view of "Marriage", (or relationship to your partner), from Adrienne Strevens-Bunn, and also some reflections of "Kindergarten" by Robert Fulgham, (a guide when relating to others). These seemed to cover much of Life's situations, so this month we are featuring them all under the title of "Maintenance Manual of Life".
NETAC The word on everyone's lips, stands for "New Environmental Technologies Annual Conference". It will be launched on Saturday 30 May, to celebrate United Nations Environment Day on 6 June. We are excited to be co-hosting this regular yearly event with the GENI Foundation Ltd (a recognized Non Governmental Organization with the UN), and ASTRO Networks Inc (researching new technologies). Each year prominent Australian and International speakers will be invited to share their knowledge and experience, but the aim is to empower individuals to personally and collectively contribute to the restoration of the environment in which each of us live and breathe.
The extra administration required for this conference has stretched the office staff of World Harmony to their limits, and we ask for help. There's marketing, sponsorship, logistics, graphic design, handing out brochures and many other tasks required to mount this unique $8000 prototype, which will
promote new technological advances each year.
Oh! and remember to book your seat early.

"UNISON" Networking Centre had a New Age and Psychic workshop on 5 December last year. I was there for World Harmony. Their philosophy is to establish a network to support and promote one another. This principle of teamwork, they say, is the key for every successful business operation. A vast array of books, tapes, gems and incense accompanied demonstrations of Kinesiology, Reiki, Tarot Reading, Music Therapy and much more. Do pay them a visit, take your friends, exchange ideas, get their newsletter and list of activities. Their friendly staff and congenial atmosphere will make you most welcome.

NEW CIRCLES It is with joy that I report the development of three new Circles. The first, the Elders circle, giving our senior citizens the respected place in society that their years of knowledge and experience deserves. This month they have their third meeting, with young 84 year old Bob Glassborow at the helm.
The Youth circle, working mutually with the Elders, is soon to get under way, with it's new co-ordinator Adam Lancaster, now making major strides forward in his personal life, and thirdly our talented musician and composer, Vivian Freeman has accepted the creative role of bringing together artists from varied disciplines to create the new, and long awaited Arts Circle.
BACK TO BEING Those who were present at Donald Mamara's enchanting evening in December, will I'm sure agree with me, that this man, with his fascinating background, gave us an evening to remember. He was very casual and allowed the evening to progress according to the energy of the people in the room. We came together in the children's play area at Coonara and during the night he allowed us the free rein to just play together again, to become the children we had forgotten we once
were. He calls it "Body Learning '. The attendance was just right and there was a subtle wisdom behind his talk that bypassed the everyday and focused on being the beings we so often loose sight of, as we progress through adult life. Thank you Sara for introducing us to this loving man. I would like to see him back again, especially talking at our Personal Development evenings.

Philophonetics-Counselling was developed from Rudolf Steiner's Anthroposophia (Psychosophy), and from Humanistic Psychology and the Expressive Arts by Yehuda Tagar. Founder of the Persephone College. Philophonetics means literally 'Love of Sounds'. A Conscious relationship with one's experience, it includes Sensing, Movement, Visualisations and the Sounds of human speech, creating deeper and healthier relationships. Mark this date in your diary. If it's to do with Steiner, it'll be good.

Getting back to old friends
Many would know the benefits of networking, some would refer to it as "word of mouth". It can also be done by mail, phone or e-mail. Such is the work of East-West Network under the direction of David Keane in WA. They work towards linking servers for goodwill and global unity. An educational organization inviting people to communicate with each other and to experience unity and synthesis through meditation and compassionate service. They work with third world and ex-communist countries bringing global unity and harmony into physical reality through focused group action. This work is so close to our own dreams in World Harmony through our Intercultural circle
David would love to talk to you on 08 9398 3347 or write to him at PO Box 582, Gosnells 6110 WA.
In Victoria contact Sue Ashton, through our Office.
All investments in World Harmony (Victoria) become due on 1 April. For just $20 you will receive
bimonthly editions of "In Harmony", keeping you in touch with all the activities and news throughout the organization.
This newsletter relies on these investment for its publication so please send us yours today on the form on page 6.
THIS MONTH'S FEATURE
"MAINTENANCE MANUAL OF LIFE"
Jerry was the kind of guy you love to hate. He was always in a good mood and always had something positive to say. When someone would ask him how he was doing, he would reply, "If I were any better, I would be twins!". He was a unique manager because he had several waiters who had followed him around from restaurant to restaurant. The reason the waiters followed Jerry was because of his attitude. He was a natural motivator. If an employee was having a bad day, Jerry was there telling the employee how to look on the positive side of the situation.
Seeing this style really made me curious, so one day I went up to Jerry and asked him, "I don't get it! You can't be a positive person all of the time. How do you do it?ö Jerry replied, "Each morning I wake up and say to myself, ôJerry, you have two choices today. You can choose to be in a good mood or you can choose to be in a bad mood.ö I choose to be in a good mood. Each time something bad happens, I can choose to be a victim or I can choose to learn from it. I choose to learn from it.
Every time someone comes to me complaining, I can choose to accept their complaining or I can point out the positive side of life. I choose the positive side of life. "Yeah, right, it's not that easy," I protested. "Yes it is," Jerry said. "Life is all about choices. When you cut away all the junk, every situation is a choice. You choose how you react to situations. You choose how people will affect your mood. You choose to be in a good mood or bad mood. The bottom line: It's your choice how you live life." I reflected on what Jerry said. Soon thereafter, I left the restaurant industry to start my own business. We lost touch, but I often thought about him when I made a choice about life instead of reacting to it.
Several years later, I heard that Jerry did something you are never supposed to do in a restaurant business; he left the back door open one morning and was held up at gunpoint by three armed robbers. While trying to open the safe, his hand, shaking from nervousness, slipped off the combination. The robbers panicked and shot him. Luckily, Jerry was found relatively quickly and rushed to the local trauma centre. After 18 hours of surgery and weeks of intensive care, Jerry was released from the hospital with fragments of the bullets still in his body.
I saw Jerry about six months after the accident. When I asked him how he was, he replied, "If I were any better, I'd be twins. Wanna see my scars?" I declined to see his wounds, but did ask him what had gone through his mind as the robbery took place. "The first thing that went through my mind was that I should have locked the back door," Jerry replied. "Then, as I lay on the floor, I remembered that I had two choices: I could choose to live, or I could choose to die. I chose to live".
"Weren't you scared? Did you lose consciousness?" I asked. Jerry continued, "The paramedics were great. They kept telling me I was going to be fine. But when they wheeled me into the emergency room and I saw the expressions on the faces of the doctors and nurses, I got really scared. In their eyes, I read, "He's a dead man". I knew I needed to take action."
"What did you do?" I asked. "Well, there was a big, burly nurse shouting questions at me," said Jerry. She asked if I was allergic to anything. "Yes", I replied. The doctors and nurses stopped working as they waited for my reply. I took a deep breath and yelled, 'Bullets!' Over their laughter, I told them, 'I am choosing to live. Operate on me as if I am alive, not dead." Jerry lived thanks to the skill of his doctors, but also because of his amazing attitude. I learned from him that every day we have the choice to live fully. Attitude, after all, is everything.
You now have the choice to ignore this or choose the positive side of life and share it with others.
It is often assumed that marriage is the beginning of something, which in a number of ways is true, but marriage is also the culmination of something. If I were to write a fairy story, I would put marriage in the middle and not at the end.
The physical act of marriage is a ritual. In our western society, ritual - its power and purpose, has largely been forgotten in favour of more fashionable and left brain activities, such as law and politics. Unfortunately neither of these are any more than the social moors of the times, and as such, have no strength in making or moulding a marriage. So when a disillusioned divorcee informs me that marriage is just a piece of paper and not worth the ink written on it, I know that he or she has completely missed the point.
The basic ingredient of any marriage is love. I am not talking about the romantic love of soap operas on day time television, I am talking about "Love" with a capital "L", the most powerful energy there is - that which holds the universe together.
I am a romantic soul, I believe that the greater the work there is to be done in the world, the higher the vibration of love required to do it. Therefore some of the greatest works performed in this world have not been by solitary men in laboratories. The great works have been performed by lovers. Fred and Gabby Hollows being just one couple who spring to mind with their incredible pioneering eye surgery in the third world.
I do not believe that marriage is a necessary path for all those sharing a great and intense love. Love is an energy that can draw two people together to perform a particular task or learn a particular lesson that only they were meant to bring about, and once completed, the connection fades leaving each person free to explore new lessons with new partners.
Some people, however, come together because the energy of love in this lifetime, or indeed over many lifetimes, is there for them to accomplish many lessons and create many wonderful things together. Each new discovery just seems to build that energy and bond them closer together.
These people have made what I call a "marriage of the heart". For them the ritual of marriage is an instinctual and at the same time logical next stage in their relationship. For them the ritual of marriage is a way of sharing with family and friends, the abundant energy of love. In this ritual act of celebrating their love for one another, they give that energy freely, and in doing so (as in the way of love), what is freely given is returned in abundance, and further strengthens and enhances the love they already share together.
Marriage is a gift of love, rare and beautiful. It cannot be made out of what is not there, but when there is a marriage of the heart, incredible miracles can happen.

ALL I EVER REALLY NEEDED TO KNOW I LEARNED IN KINDERGARTEN
Most of what I really need to know about how to live, and what to do, and how to be, I learned in Kindergarten. Wisdom was not at the top of the graduate school mountain, but there in the sandbox at nursery school.
These are the things I learned.
Share everything. Play fair. Don't hit people. Put things back where you found them. Clean up your own mess. Don't take things that aren't yours. Say you're sorry when you hurt somebody. Wash your hands before you eat. Flush. Warm cookies and cold milk are good for you.
Remember the book about Dick and Jane, and the first word you learned. The biggest word of all ...LOOK. Everything you need to know is in there somewhere. The Golden Rule; and love; and basic sanitation, ecology and politics and sane living.
Think of what a better world it would be if we all, the whole world, had cookies and milk about 3 o'clock every afternoon and then lay down with our blankets for a nap. Or if we had a basic policy in our nation and other nations to always put things back where we found them and cleaned up our own messes.
And it is still true, no matter how old you are. When you go out into the world, watch for traffic, hold hands and stick together. Live a balanced life. Learn some and think some and draw and paint and sing and dance and play and work every day some. Take a nap every afternoon.. Be aware of wonder, remember the little seed in the plastic cup. The roots go down and the plant goes up and nobody really knows how or why, but we are all like that. Goldfish and hamsters, and even the little seed in the plastic cup, they all die. So do we.

HEALTH & HEALING
INNER PEACE
We had the privilege to dine with two very special people recently. Our dear friend Ann Campbell introduced us to Marlyse and Michael Carroll, whose love and generosity to two virtual strangers was second to none, and we would like to congratulate them on their recent marriage.
If ever there was an event really worth attending it was their Meditation Intensive after Christmas. Meri Gebbie was there and told us how much she enjoyed the retreat with them, and how gentle and loving it all was.
Marlyse and Michael work with the win/win principle. Their vision truly inspired us and we look forward to working with them in the future.

PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT
Welcome to a great 1998.
The holidays are over for most of us and we're back to our everyday life routines. Some of us have
made New Year's resolutions which we really want to keep, not like in the past, where they lasted only days, weeks or, if we were really good, even months. Of course, there is always the exception to the rule where we actually kept those promises to ourselves.
I have decided not to make New Year's resolutions any more other than just having a great time. I believe that the most harmonious state of being, is living in the moment. Living in the moment, is, not being haunted by the past and not being worried about the future (this is my understanding). If we just are, we then don' t have to struggle with any restrictions or rules that we have created for ourselves. Our actions are borne out of the essence of who we really are. They are then just perfect for that moment, and so are the circumstances that come with those actions.
If we are truly serious about reconnecting with our true selves we have to rid ourselves from all that accumulated karma when we follow somebody else's path! We don' t need any leaders or gurus, we know everything we need to know to regain our freedom, but we don' t want to admit to ourselves that it is that simple.
Well all that's left to say is, let's do it., Get together every now and then to share, and get on with it again.
See you when I do.
