Winners of the Bushfire Relief Fund raffle were announced today. First prize winner, Santa Gibilisco, a member of the Pascoe Vale Spinners and Weavers Group, said she was delighted with her win.
1st Prize winner: Santa Gibilisco
That winning smile tells it all! On arrival at the Guild to claim her prize she admitted that, after receiving the congratulatory phone call, she was so excited she couldn't sleep.
Congratulations also go to Laraine Charles, winner of the 2nd prize, and to Elise Launa Hiern, winner of the 3rd prize.
We wish to thank everyone who kindly donated cash and handmade items for the Fund. All the handmade items have now been distributed to the bushfire areas. Most of the monies raised will go to purchase craft books for individuals and community craft groups in the fire effected areas. The final amount raised will be posted as soon as possible.
Collingwood Children's Farm
18 May 2009
On what turned out to be a beautiful sunny autumn day, lots of fun and activity abounded down at the Collingwood Children's Farm:
Not just for kids, everyone became involved.
On pieces of "mordanted" calico, children were encouraged to hammer leaves and flowers into the fabric.
The results were very attractive dyed pattern pieces, to take home and fashion into little bags, mats, etc.

Great interest was shown by all who stopped to watch these members of the HWSG demonstrating at the recent Whittlesea Agricultural Show. Spinners were adjacent to the shearing demonstrations and adults and children were surprised and amazed at how the raw fleece was worked, with the finished product being a beautiful skein of wool, a luxurious shawl or a pair of warm socks.
