The E.P.I. Handweavers is a group of
weavers which meets regularly to share ideas. Our name comes from an old
and traditional term used by weavers to explain the number of threads
per inch of fabric. The group was formed at the end of 1983, after an
intensive workshop with weaver, Rhonda O'Meara . Members share a love
of textiles and weaving. We meet monthly to show and discuss work.
Weaving is a solitary craft and it is really helpful to be able to meet
like-minded souls regularly, to share joys and discuss problems. We
are influenced by the group but we all have individual talents and
preferences. No pressure is exerted on anyone to provide quantity.
Our first commitment is to quality and integrity.
As a group the E.P.I.has held five exhibitions. One in 1986 at the Old
Cheese Factory in Berwick, our second in 1988 was entitled Impressions of Spring and held at Waverley Gallery. In 1993 we celebrated our tenth anniversary at the
Blackwood St. Gallery with Decad'nce. In 1997 we held Treadling Water at the
Old Customs House in Williamstown, and in 1998 Up a Gum Tree at the
Blackwood St. Gallery in North Melbourne.
