Dyeing Group Calendar for 2007

In 2007 we explored lots of dyes available from our surroundings. Some came from plants such as eucalyptus, bottlebrush, Osage Orange, native cherry and lichen. Others from Avocado stones and spice dyeing. Then there was Indigo which, as well as giving us a whole range of blues, was a valuable friend as an over dye to turn all those beige skeins into all shades of green.

The yellow lichen which grows on fruit trees tested with household bleach showed potential for red or pink shades. The range of colours can be seen in Carmel’s rug and Elaine’s beautifully attired doll which was part of her end of year project for the Certificate Spinning Course. It was an honour to have her named after me. Helen’s jacket was created from different coloured fleeces dyed with native cherry.

For our last dye day we had some fun with Procion dyes using Kraft Kolours crampot method and skeins of cotton from which hopefully have been produced lots of colourful ‘Grandmothers Favourite Dishclothes’
