We meet at the Templestowe Uniting Church on the third Monday of each month, starting at 10.00 a.m. After a tea or coffee, members may borrow library books and catch up with news. The meeting is followed by a speaker or a workshop such as natural dyeing like the one below. Members share lunch and work at their craft until 2.00 p.m. The Group has a monthly Newsletter, a Library and Trading Table. We also have trips and shared lunches with other groups.
At our April meeting one of our members led us in a hands-on silk dyeing workshop. We used tussah silk slivers obtained from the Victorian Guild Craft Outlet. Many interesting vibrant colours were produced. At our next meeting in May, Maureen Stone led us in making silk paper with our dyed slivers. Both of these days were most productive and enjoyable, and at our June meeting "Show and Tell" several greeting cards were displayed using the silk paper. During the month of June we have had a display case in our local library showing many facets of our craft. Members were invited to spin in the library to compliment the display. We are a friendly group and welcome visitors and new members.
