EXPERIMENTAL SPINNING GROUP

The Experimental Spinning group meets once a month to explore a particular yarn, technique or idea relating to spinning.
Experimentation and sharing is encouraged and all skill levels welcomed.

The spinning group meets on the first Saturday of the month
from 1:00pm to -3:00pm.

The Programme for 2008 is:

2nd February Other fibres

Our February meeting experienced the delights of bamboo, cotton, glitz, carbon, ramie and milk protein. It was a very interesting feeling, challenging our spinning...bamboo floats, EVERYWHERE and also our touch as some felt quite strange. We’ve still to see any dyeing results from this; that should also prove interesting.

1st March 1pm -3pm Beads

As I’ve had a request to revisit beads that’s what we’ll do. Having had a bit of a think about it, we’ll try all sorts of beads, the only requirement is that the beads you choose will fit through the orifice of your spinning wheel. We’ll add them whilst spinning (?), and add them when plying. We can thread them on or tie them on. Bead yarns can be chunky or sparkling, your choice.

5th April 1pm -3pm Woollen spinning with Corriedale fleece, adding 'bits'.

Corriedale is the feature breed, this year, of the Australian Sheep and Wool show in Bendigo. So in honour of the breed, our next meeting will make use of this great spinning fleece. Our meeting will be a mix of ideas. We’ll be woollen spinning with Corriedale fleece and adding bits. This will be both technical and fun. For those of you who haven’t done woollen spinning, here is a chance to have a go and ‘bits’ is always interesting to see what people bring to add in to their yarn.

‘Bits’ can be defined as yarn, thread, fluff, feathers or almost anything soft really.

3D5S - Field Trips

3D5S stands for three dimensions and five senses and is a field trip group, with a difference!

We experience a variety of localities using all five senses as a basis for each person's own creative process. Further inspiration and encouragement arises from interaction amongst the group members.

We have monthly meetings with every second meeting a field trip, with alternative months dedicated to further exploration via a variety of techniques and discussions at the Guild rooms. These are open flexible meetings with each person participating at their own level.

We meet every 3rd Sunday of the month, usually from 2-4pm.

Our meetings for 2008 are:

17th February Guild Rooms Bring along a 10cm x 10cm challenge for discussion.

The 10x10 challenge proved to be very successful again and we saw quite a variety of techniques, expressing the individual creativity that we all have.

16th March Immigration Museum Exhibition: Masks of China : Ritual & Legend

Our March meeting will be on Sunday, the 16th ( 2-4pm ) and we’ll be going to the Immigration Museum. They have an exhibition called ‘Masks of Chine: Ritual & Legend’ running till the 24th of March. which should be full of colour and decoration. The Immigration Museum always has very interesting exhibitions, often with a textile theme.

CHARITY BASKET

We would like to support a local charity which receives no government funding and have selected St Mary's House of Welcome.

We ask that you make hats, gloves, socks, scarves and small items and through this charity these will be given to the many homeless people who live in our city.

If you wish to make children's items we will also pass them on to a deserving charity.
