The Monash Handball Club is one of the oldest Handball Clubs in Victoria, one of the most successful and the largest student Handball Club in Melbourne. The most distinguished feature of the club is its diversity. Our players vary greatly in age, skill and experience and we provide opportunity to learn and fun to play for beginners as well as for experienced high-level players. Handball is a fast and competitive team sport comparable to netball or water polo. You can play handball indoors or outdoors, on grass, sand or timbered floor. Players are encouraged to be athletic and inventive, but above all, to work together as a team. Handball is played on a court the size of two basketball courts. At either end of the field is a indoor soccer-type goal. The aim is to get the ball more often into your opponent's goal than they can get it into yours. The ball is moved by passing in the style of netball or water polo. Players can take three steps and hold the ball for around three seconds. Dribbling is allowed, however the ball must be thrown, meaning that passing is usually the faster option. It is an outstanding usually high-scoring, dynamic and athletic sport. Working the ball into a shooting position can be eye-catching enough, but handball’s greatest spectacle comes when the best players in the world wind up to shoot. The best can leap in the air and uncoil their bodies like springs, the explosive nature of the move propelling the ball at speeds of around 100 kilometres per hour. Handball is one of the most popular sports in the world, as well for players as for spectators. It is played around the world, around 150 nations play the game. At least 15 million people from of all ages are involved and with good reason because there is something in it for everyone: - it keeps you fit and healthy - it is fast and fun - and it promotes diverse strategies and tactics.
