The studios provided opportunities for artists to work in affordable spaces in central Melbourne. They also offered a relaxed and supportive environment for a series of slide discussions, feedback sessions, readings and performances. These were cosey casual evenings which invited individuals to engage in critical dialogue with friends and peers.

Due to an evident lack of opportunities and venues for artists to participate in such activities the series became increasingly popular, attracting involvement from both local and interstate artists.
