Managing
|
Conserving The Grange involves much
planning and careful consideration of a range of
complex management issues. The council, its
contracted bushland managers, and the Friends Of The
Grange work together to address the threats to the
heathland reserve. These include weeds, pests, fire
and visitor impacts. |
Pest
Management
Introduced animals have had an impact upon the remnant heathland of The Grange, and the animals it supports. The term animal also applies to introduced birds and insects. Introduced species can impact in different ways that include competition, habitat and vegetation destruction, predation and disease. |

Animal
Competition
Some introduced animals are aggressive competitors with native animals for their basic survival requirements. Introduced birds and wasps occupy valuable hollows and nesting sites for native birds. Introduced rodents such as he Brown and Black Rat contend for limited food resources with our native rodents. The Grange Protected The management of The Grange and the Friends of Group are working to reduce these threats. Honeybees and Wasps are fumigated regularly, after their nests are located. |
