Plant Conservation

Bushland reserves, such as The Grange help conserve our unique native flora, such as trees, shrubs, climbers, lilies and even tiny sun-dews and mosses.

It is not only National Parks that conserve our native flora; small reserves like The Grange also have an important role to play. The Grange contains at least three rare plants. The Prawn Orchid (Pterostylis pedoglossa) is considered vulnerable in Victoria and exists in only five known sites including The Grange.

The Leafless Globe Pea (Sphaerolobium vimineum) is a delicate wet heath species that is very uncommon around Melbourne due to loss of its habitat. The Fairies Aprons (Utricularia dichotoma) is a carnivorous plant that is now also rare due to the loss of habitat

The Grange acts as a living store of seed and genetic material, which can be used to revegetate other areas to ensure plant conservation into the future.
