News from the DGSA Vic branch Judges Training School.

The DGSA Vic branch Judges Training School which was held on the last weekend of July 2000 at the Pakenham Racecourse in Victoria was attended by 15 people and featured many discussion sessions along with presentations from judges, exhibitors, guest speakers as well as a practical hands-on session.

Many thanks must go to Mr Paul Bayard for all his hard work in producing and orchestrating the weekend.

Speakers for the weekend included Mr Phil Malcolm, a respected Judge and breeder of Holstein Cattle, who imparted an insight into the importance of using a positive judging technique and the need to strive towards breeding for the perfect animal.

The phrase for the weekend was "Lactation Lactation Lactation" as aptly put across by former federal MP Mr Russell Broadbent in his rousing talk on how to present yourself once you have accepted the responsibility of judging at a goat show.

Mr Jason Ronald, President of the Pakenham Agricultural Society and a councillor with the Royal Melbourne Agricultural Society delivered a presentation about the show ring and the duties and responsibilities of the judge, the stewards and the many other people that go towards making a good show.
