Meeting transcript.

Welcome to the 2002 DGSA Vic branch Annual General Meeting.

Greetings one and all, we are live and on-line at last.

So far we have heard the Presidents report and we are now onto the Treasurers report.

The chair has been vacated as Noreen has decided to call it a day.
A large vote of thanks was to be heard by all in attendance.

Nominations have been called for the President's position.....

John Green has been unanimously elected President (and there was much rejoicing!!!)

Raye Carter has been elected vice president.

Rhonda Patton has been re-dobbed in as Treasurer and is not allowed to knock it back!

The Beckwith trophy has been won by Susan McGearey with Baringa Rocheal.

The Owen Dawson Trophy has been won by Rita Butt with Buttara Bronwyn.

There has been much discussion about the Dairy Doe of the Year results which have just been announced for the 2000-2001 season and there has been a question asked of the meeting about where the results are for this season and also about what if a show society fails to send in results then individual competitors will be missing out on point they have earned.

A good idea would be for all members who show there animals to really strongly impress upon their show society to send in the results or to notify a committee member of their result to ensure that things get chased up properly

Like I said there has been much discussion and I have had a bit to do with bit. See the official minutes of the meeting for the proper details.

We are currently discussing the notices on motion re the Constitution updates since it hasn't been touched for 12 years....

The constitution changes have been passed unanimously and now the hard work starts. The meeting thanked Peter Keays for all the hard yakka he has put into it.

The AGM has finished at 9:00pm
-----------------------------

The meeting is taking a 10 minute break before continuing on with the General monthly meeting.

You are all cordially invited to stay on-line 'cause I will be as long as there is still skin on my fingertips!!!

EXPLANATION: The Beckwith Trophy is presented to the owner of the goat with the highest quantity of milk over 3.49% butterfat at a DGSA Vic registered branch or club 24 hour Production milk test.

Welcome to the General meeting. (OK it was a long 10 minutes)

President John Green opened the meeting and welcomed all those present (and on-line)

Into general business after the normal business is out of the way...

Regarding question from Sandra McPhee re Melaans, this stuff was knocked back in the last postal vote. Victoria is hopefull that there will have been enough discussion between States to be able to reach a consensus at the next federal council meeting.

Greeny thanked Noreen for her last 12 years in the Presidents chair and some 33 or 34 years on and off committee altogether and presented her with a bouquet of flowers and the meeting cheered and clapped loudly!!

General Meeting meeting closed at 10:05pm
------------------------------------

The February monthly meeting will now be held if you want to hang around.

In the meantime I will still be typing in the meeting responses to some of your messages so keep pushing that "refresh" button......

February meeting opened and minutes etc have all been dealt with.

Regarding: question from Marj Drury re MAO queries.
The Milk Awards Officer email address is on the "Who's Who" page on this site and it is correct according to Bryony, and she says she usually gets the club milk test results done within a week but there sometimes can be a delay from the butterfat testing "place" and these delays have appeared to been from her but they are not.
(Hope this explains things a bit better)

Regarding: The Seymour Expo query from Bev Stent will be addressed in general business so stay on-line please Bev!

Much discussion is going on at present about ear tags and much more will obviously be said on this subject.

Ken Rogash mentioned the Tatura Goat Expo on the long weekend in March. It is all about promoting all breeds of goats and there will be thousands of people going to be there. Make sure you make the most of it and get along to Tatura.

Regarding the second Seymour Expo query from Bev Stent (we are still talking about it Bev)
There is unfortunately no-one available for either the Seymour Expo next weekend or the Tatura expo in March so we have voted that we will not be "doing " either of them, sorry Bev.

Raye Carter has reported the "someone from Korea" is looking for 1000 Saanens, kids, goatlings and 1st lactation does so let her know if you've got anything for sale!

Milk Awards:
Caradoc Beata Q*
Carolann Brown Snickers Q*3
Buttara Page Boy † § 198/110
Buttara Peter Pan † § 200/198
Carolann Elke *
Peppercorn Elanora *Q*3

As there was no further general business, the meeting was closed at 11:01pm

Thankyou all for joining us on-line and I hope you all enjoyed "being here" as much as I did.

And I musn't forget to thank the RASV for organising the phone line in our meeting room, the VASA room at the Royal Melbourne Showgrounds. Thanks Justine.

Messages submitted:
From Marg Reynolds:
hello everyone, my concern is that the registration level is harder for the all blacks & the all browns than for the other four recognized breeds. this is crazy since all dairy goats in australia have such a limited breeding pool.

From Sandra McPhee:
Regarding Melaans. Q1 Is it envisaged that the regulations will be finalised by Kiama (DGSA) this year to enable Melaans to be upgraded from Experimental into Melaan Section D? Q2 Once in Section D, is it really necessary for Melaans to be inspected before upgrading into Section C or higher? Thank you.

From Jane Hewlett:
Congratulations on this new innovation to allow all to know what is on. Jane Hewlett Fed President

From Sharyn Carmichael
Message: Congratulations and Thankyou to the organisers for enabling people inable to physically attend meetings to be able to "join the meeting" online. Regards Sharyn Carmichael

From Susan McGearey:
Message: Conratulations John, I'll have a glass of champange for you

From Sandra Mc Phee:
Congratulations Raye - an official ear to chew! PS I missed the ride in with you tonight

From Marjorie & Peter Drury:
Pat Coleby asked us to tender her apologies for non-attendance. Great idea - to use the Internet. Congratulations!

From Lorna Robinson:
HELLO FROM THE PINEROCK STUD,BEECHWORTH

From Sharyn Carmichael:
Danielle Blomeley of Aysgarth stud wishes to put in an apology-(she may join in on-line during the proceedings if possible)

From Susan McGearey:
What is the Beckwith trophy for? I don't know what we did to deserve it.

From Danielle Blomeley:
Congratulations on the use of the internet for this meeting. It's reassuring to know that all members, regardless of distance and location, have opportunity to access the meeting. A great innovation!

From Marj Drury :
Could we be given the currant email of M/A/O/also a query why does it take so long to get back results of Milk tests run by clubs/?

From Ann Milligan:
My understanding is there has to be a breed standard for Melaans before they can be upgraded Not the experimental breed standard Am I right?o why has the experimental blacks got a wry tail as a disqualifying fault when none of the other breeds do?

From Bev Stent:
Congratulations for this new venture - hope it is successful. It has allowed me to tell you about the Seymour Expo on 15-16-17 Feb. They would love us to come - no cost to us - new display area in a shed with other animals. Would like to know if we will be there asap so they can arrange passes. Would like milking demonstrations and any other activity to involve the public. Do we go? Do we have vouunteers?

From Susan McGearey:
Thanks Paul for the explantion. Also a thanks to Lynn Conner-Southall the breeder of Rocheal. She is a terrific goat and I am expecting great things for her daughters and her son.

From Sandra McPhee :
General Meeting - its wonderful to see so many people on-line! Does this now mean that the Vic Branch webpage can get its own "chat page" - no more late night phone calls for "help" just post your problem on-line and viola!

Also from Sandra McPhee:
General Business - Response to Marg Reynolds... It does seem to be much more difficult to register Melaan bucks as they must be from herd recorded does. In order to increase the gene pool, surely the buck registrations can be made more accessible. Is it possible to include an "Experimental" or "Melaan" section at shows? (I know the rules of the DGSA do not permit this at the moment but it would certainly promote, increase awareness and add a bit of interest for the public)

From Ann Milligan :
We have a couple of shows here in NSW with experimental classes and now our branch shows do too

From Jane Hewlett:
Congratulations to you John on your election to President of Victoria and Many thanks to Noreenn for all the support she has given the branch & the Society as a whole. I have found this to be an excellent meeting and wish the branch all the best for the coming year. jane Hewlett federal President.

From Bev Stent:
If we are to go to Seymour, I will need to know 'who' is going in order to arrange passes. There may be some cost for extra passes if needed - not sure what the current arrangements are.

A last one from Jane Hewlett:
Thankyou Noreen for all your wonderful work and great support for the society. Congratulations John they are big shoes to fill but we all know you can do it. Jane
