We arrive in Beechworth on a glorious autumnal afternoon. The Hibernian is a classic country pub. The front bar is a long narrow room with a few local gents at the bar. There is a country style
bistro at the back, though no lunches on a Saturday. Nice backyard beer garden. |

Apparently this is where the Kelly Gang used to drink. An interesting and substantial pub, the front bar has a nice old Victoriana feel. Stained glass windows an effective touch. We decided to
have lunch here just 2 minutes before the kitchen closed and we were looked after without any surly looks. Under some renovation around the back. |

A nice simple country pub, though there's a big focus on TAB and racing. The small bar has a good number of locals in, the lino floor gives it a feel that we're all gathered in someone's
kitchen. There is also a very cosy looking country style back dining area. |

We come to realise how significant this area is to people who like to stuff and mount aquatic creatures. This bar has a very large crustacean on the wall. It was rather quiet
here at this time. The place is, again, a nice traditional country pub with a cosy feel. The bench seating along the wall gave the sensation of being in a well decorated footy change room. |

On the way to Wangaratta we stop in at the very small town of Everton. This pub appears to cater mainly for snow tourists. It has a very small front bar without any frills and a well appointed
dining room. More big fish. |

Finally we're in Wangaratta. The cars can now be parked and we can get stuck into the heavy beers . The North Eastern looks and feels unusual for a Victorian pub. It has a 20s or 30s
architecture and the front bar, which isn't really at the front, is a fairly large space broken up into a couple of drinking areas. Good to see a prominent local footy presence on the walls. |

Tucked away at the end of a dark street, the Railway looks a bit neglected from the outside, though all the parked cars give away how popular it is. Inside it is packed full of blokes, a real
sportsman's pub. Sport on the TV and the walls. |

The evening in Wangaratta must be getting into full swing. The front bar here is full of youngsters. Its a large horseshoe bar and the feeling here is one of lots of people
just meeting up to drink and socialise. People coming back after sporting events, nice community atmosphere. We have extra beers here. Cosy bistro out back. |

After the crowds of the previous two pubs, this one felt a bit desperate. This is a pub that has gone for the gamblers' dollar and put in the pokies. There is a seperate drinking and eating area
at the back done up to a western/cowboy sort of theme. Interesting but I don't know if it works. |

Lots of kids here. A busy, happy place where young blokes like to tell you about the game of footy they played that day. The bar itself is otherwise rather bland and contemporary with pink and
tan decor. The adjoining area seems to operate as a pizza dining area with gingham clothed tables. Also very popular this evening. Stayed here for a few beers so recollections are a bit jumbled. |

It may have been a pub once but is now a night club. We thought we'd skip it. Drunk enough anyway. |

Staying the night here so it would be inappropriate to not have a drink. The front bar lacks a bit of atmosphere. Its a very simple, contemporary TAB focussed bar. The main space is devoted to a
large red carpeted dining area. It feels more like an outer suburban Melbourne pub than one you would like to experience in a country town. |
