Dropped in for lunch and 3 pots and found the GN to be a cosy pub in residential North Carlton. The timber wall panels gives the place a warm feeling but P thought it a bit pretentious. Maybe it needed more
locals at the bar. |

A more earthy pub with a country grunge theme. More effort seems to have been put into the culture of the place rather than the decor. This is apart from the band posters and WEG footy posters. Get the
impression it fires up at particular times. |

This pub has opted for the clean, high brow cafe style of beer delivery. Polished floors, large open spaces but not delivering what we expect in a proper pub. Popular with Carlton locals though. |

A nice tucked away pub with no airs or graces other than the delivery of interesting beers. The Brandon has Holgate and Mountain Goat brews on tap. We had to have a few extra here. |

Who needs Irish theme pubs when you have the Dan O'Connell. This place has maintained itself as a very fine place to gather and drink beer (or Guinness). Even on your own you can be entertained by what's on
the walls. |

Very humble pub with a big TAB emphasis. Popular with the punters. |

I have better memories of the Clare. I find it now rather less inspiring with its cerise walls. |

Looked OK from the outside but it turned out that the old faithful Stewart was being turned into another dreaded Irish theme pub. |

The Astor is another nice reliable pub with a good aspect down Lygon St. Today it seemed a bit subdued. The drinkers had had either too much or not enough. |

We settled in for the evening at the Clyde. The front bar was closed we found ourselves in an elongated side room with pool tables. Watching Fremantle smacking Essendon around in a pre season footy match
was a happy bonus. |

Perhaps it was a bit ambitious to try and schedule Naughtons in as it meant cross country through Melbourne Uni to get there. Known to get very popular with students. |
