Welcome
to the Yarrabie website.
Our goal is to restore and develop 33 Ha of bush scrub into a native bushland retreat for our family and friends to
contribute to, experience and enjoy.
Restoring the native bush to its former glory will be a long term
commitment to environmental biodiversity and sustainability. The overall
objective is to eradicate introduced weeds and foreign vegetation,
re-establish the plant species native to the area and set up various mini-ecosystems throughout.
Hopefully the re-establishment of natural wildlife habitats will
encourage the return of the native fauna.
Building a house and living in a remote locality also presents many challenges. Just like many remote localities in Australia, our block has
no power, water or council services - facilities we so often take for
granted. Electrical power, town water and sewage will give way to solar
power and a generator, rain filled tank water, composting toilet and grey-water
recycling.
In reality this will be an on-going mission, a continual work-in-progress for
many years. We know it is a big job, but after
all, that's what makes life interesting, challenging and rewarding. Striving to make
things better.
