Literary Achievement Awards

Golden key is pleased to announce the Society’s annual literary contest, the Literary Achievement Awards. The purpose of this scholarship program is to recognise and encourage Society members’ literary talents. All students and alumni members are invited to enter.

There are four categories: fiction, non-fiction, poetry and news/feature writing. The entries are judged according to originality, creativity and clarity. The winners are selected by a panel of judges that includes academic coordinators, chapter advisor and honorary members.

  Rules:

  1. Only Golden Key student members of alumni may submit entries.
  2. Each entry must be accompanied by an official Literary Achievement Awards application from, which is available from the Asia-Pacific Headquarters or on Golden Key’s web site.
  3. The application’s name or any other identification must not appear on any page other than the application form.
  4. The entry must be an essay, think piece or original composition of fiction, non-fiction, or poetry. Please specify the category (fiction, non-fiction, or poetry) on the title page.
  5. Only one entry per member, per category will be accepted.
  6. Previously published works are not acceptable.
  7. The winner in each category will receive a US$1,000 scholarship, and their entry will be printed in the annual issue of CONCEPTS.

Art International

Golden Key recognises the creative talents that exist among our members through our annual art competition, Art International. All students and alumni members are invited to enter.

There are eight categories: painting (oil, acrylic, watercolour); drawing (all traditional drawing mediums, including pastel); photography; sculpture; applied art (ceramics, textiles, jewellery); printmaking; mixed media; and computer-generated art, set design, graphic design and illustration. The winners are selected by a panel of judges, which includes professors from Georgia State University. Each is an expert in the field he/she judges.

Rules:

  1. Only Golden Key student members or alumni may submit entries.
  2. An official application must be returned with each separate entry. You may obtain applications by contacting the Asia-Pacific Headquarters on (02) 95191696 or on gknhs@mail.usyd.edu.au.
  3. Only one submission per member, per category will be accepted.
  4. The entry must be an original work, submitted on a slide. Participants in the photography category must send the original photograph in ready-to-hang form.
  5. The top 10 finalists in each category will submit their original artwork to Golden Key National Honour Society for final judging. Entries must arrive matted and framed or ready-to-hang/display.
  6. All shipping costs must be paid by the entrant. UPS shipping limits need to be observed.
  7. All submitted works and slides become the sole property of Golden Key National Honour society and will be displayed at the international convention.
  8. Entries may be submitted immediately but not later than 1 April.
  9. Golden Key will award US$1,000 to the first-place winners in each category and US$100 to 10 finalists in each of the categories. Before submitting a slide, please visit our website at http://gknhs.gsu.edu for tips and important information.

Performing Arts Showcase

 

Golden Key is proud to reward our members’ outstanding performing abilities. Members and alumni are invited to share their performing talents through Golden Key’s Performing Art Showcase.

Entries may be submitted in the following six categories: filmmaking, vocal performance, drama, original musical composition, dance, and instrumental performance.

Rules:

  1. Only Golden Key student members or alumni may submit entries.
  2. An official application form must be returned with each separate entry. You may obtain applications by contacting the Asia-Pacific Headquarters on (02) 95191696 or on gknhs@mail.usyd.edu.au.
  3. Only one submission per member, per category will be accepted.
  4. Entries must be submitted on VHS video cassette tape. Performance
  5. All shipping cost must be paid by the entrant.
  6. All submitted videotapes the property of Golden Key National Honour Society.
  7. Entries may be submitted immediately but not later than 1 March.
  8. Winners in each category will receive US$1,000 and will have the opportunity to perform at the international convention.

Student Scholastic Showcase

The student Scholastic Showcase is one of Golden Key’s International academic programs, and if a highlight at the international convention. The Showcase is comprised of four selected members who present their undergraduate research or some other scholarly work. Four members are selected by Golden Key honorary members to present their research at the international convention.

The student Scholastic Showcase was instituted as an international academic program to highlight the scholarly works of members across a broad spectrum of undergraduate studies. In the past, student have presented work on variety of topic including the psychology of dreams, music theory, genetics, and embryology – displaying the wide variety of interest among of members.

There is also an Asia-Pacific Student Scholastic Showcase at each Asia-Pacific Conference. Please contact the Asia-Pacific Headquarters for more details on this program.

Rules:

  1. Members may submit a typewritten abstract that describe their entry to the Asia-Pacific Headquarters by 1st March. Preference will be given to research that has been presented previously at an off-campus academic meeting.
  2. A letter of faculty support must be included with each entry.
  3. Participants in the Showcase must be registered at the convention. (Winners will receive complimentary convention registrations.)
  4. Each presenter will earn a US$1,000 scholarship and will be gain valuable experience by this presentation.
  5. Each student will be allowed 15 minute to discuss their research and an additional five minutes to respond to question from the floor.

Golden Key Service Award

One quality that distinguishes Golden Key from other honour societies is members’ commitment to community service. Each year, thousand of Golden Key members from hundreds of chapters worldwide donate their time and energy to make a positive difference in their communities.

The Golden Key Service Award was developed to recognize one member for their truly outstanding commitment to community service. The award will recognize either a chapter-sponsored community service project or a project carried out by the participant in the preceding year.

Rule:

  1. An official application from must be returned with each entry. You may obtain applications by contacting the Asia-Pacific Headquarters on (02) 9519 1696 or on gknhs@mail.usyd.edu.au.
  2. A 250-500 word statement must be included that describe the service project and the applicant’s philosophy of community service.
  3. A letter of recommendation from the applicant’s chapter advisor must be submitted, as well as a letter of recommendation from a representative of the beneficiary service.
  4. The successful candidate will be selected by the Golden Key Council and will be announced at the international convention. The successful applicant will receive US$250; the applicant’s chapter will receive US$250; and charity of the applicant’s choice will receive US$500.
