2002
Red Cross Door Knock Appeal
An
invitation to all Golden Key members,
As
you are all no doubt aware, March is Red Cross Calling, the annual
door knock appeal which raises much needed funds for local
Australian Red Cross services and programs.
Last year, an estimated 82,000 volunteers joined together
to raise over $7 million for the appeal, and members of the Monash
University Chapter of Golden Key were proud to be amongst those
donating their time to this worthy cause.
Since
2001 was the first year in which Golden Key has participated in
this nation-wide event, it was in many ways a trial run, an
opportunity for us to learn what was required in terms of
preparation and planning. This
year, having been previously involved with the door knock appeal,
it is hoped that Golden Key's contribution will be of a much
greater magnitude. It
is for this reason that we urge all Golden Key members to donate
their time and efforts to ensuring that the ‘2002 Red Cross Door
Knock Appeal’ is a huge success. Without the vital support of funds raised through the door
knock appeal, the Australian Red Cross would be powerless to
assist the victims of natural disasters, including the recent
bush-fires in New South Wales, and more generally, powerless to
lend a helping hand wherever there is human suffering.
The
door knock appeal is something that everyone can be involved in.
As a volunteer, collecting donations is both simple and
satisfying, and this is largely because of the remarkable
generosity of those who donate to the appeal.
However, there are simply not enough collectors for all
areas to be covered in the door knock.
This means that many members of the community are unable to
take part in what has become something of an Australian tradition.
By becoming volunteer collectors, Golden Key members can
help to increase the scope of the door knock appeal, thereby
providing more Australians with the opportunity to voice their
support for Red Cross.
How do I become involved?
The
Committee has set itself a target of $2000, well within reach if
we have the support of you, our valued members.
In 2001, the ten Golden Key members who participated in the
door knock appeal raised $650.05 in total, and hence, we would
like at least 50 collectors so that our target may be reached.
From past experience, Sunday was found to be the most
convenient day for collection.
This year, Golden Key plans to go door knocking on Sunday
24th of March, 11am – 5pm.
Collection will be in the Glen Waverley/Wheelers Hill area. Non-members are more than welcome to come along and help out,
so please feel free to pass this information onto anyone whom you
believe may be interested. To
show our appreciation of your time, a barbecue will be held at
Jells Park on the day of collection, time to be arranged.
All volunteers will receive a certificate of participation
from the Red Cross. In
addition, your involvement in this event will most certainly be
noted by prospective employers.
With
March now upon us, we would greatly appreciate an early indication
as to volunteer numbers. If
you do wish to participate, please forward your full name and
contact details (i.e. telephone and postal address) to gk_volunteers@hotmail.com.
Correspondence will be primarily via email.
This will allow us to keep you up to date with any further
developments and details for the day.
In order for us to plan the door knock, we are requesting
that all interested parties email us no later than Wednesday
20th of March.
Early responses would be greatly appreciated.
Any enquiries about the event should be directed to gk_volunteers@hotmail.com.
On
behalf of the Committee, thank you in anticipation of your
support. We look
forward to meeting many of you on the day!
