Online Magazine for October 2001

President’s Message - October 2001
Doesn’t a month make a lot of difference in ones life? Here I was typing this message a month ago and looking forward to a holiday in Queensland (which was fantastic by the way), and life was pretty OK I guess.

Then the events of September 11th hit! It certainly has changed my outlook on life, and what I want from it, I don’t know about yours? Unfortunately, on getting back from holidays, I have had to work extra shifts in order to help my boss out. This has limited my availability severely for club matters and thanks to the rest of the committee for keeping things flowing smoothly, as usual! It has got to the stage where I will need to consider a new job so I can stay sane but that’s another matter.

The next couple of months are going to be fairly hectic from a club point of view. Keep an eye on the event queue, which is always comprehensive.

In particular if you can give up a couple of hours next weekend (Saturday) to assist with JOTA we would appreciate it. My boss thinks I don’t deserve any weekends off so I will not be arriving till after 6pm but I hear that plans are well in hand so come along and make some young people interested in our hobby!

The club extends its best wishes to all those who have been ill and/or recovering (Keith and Reg to name a couple) I hope that you are all feeling better, and if you need anything done the club is only a phone call away. Removing the cables and antennasOne of the good things I have found about this club is that members are only to willing to assist others as witnessed by the turnout to relocate the tower recently from Maureen’s place to Phil’s. I am sure Maureen would like me to pass on her thanks to all those involved.

Enjoy the rest of your month and see you at the club on Friday.

Cheers for now, Andrew VK3HFA

JOTA / JOTI 2001

Dear GGREC Members.

This is your personal invitation to use your talents to show how much fun Amateur Radio can be.

JOTA / JOTI 2001 is to be held on Saturday the 20th of October 2001.

Your commitment is sought to come along and operate radio and computer equipment, and to facilitate the operation of this equipment by the Cranbourne Guides.

Remember that you don’t have to commit for a full day, half a day will be most appreciated.

Food and refreshment will be provided by the Cranbourne Guides. Those of you that have stayed back for dinner at JOTA 2000 will know that we are well looked after.

Come along and be part of a great day of radio operation and education.

Thanks

Eric + Albert lowering the tower onto Ian's van.On a rainy Saturday Morning early in October several club members gathered at the QTH of Bruce VK3ZMR (SK) and Maureen to remove the tower & cables as well as patch the entry hole in the shack. Thanks to the help of our technical directors (William & Kate) all went smoothly. Ian decided it would be the perfect addition to his van so we loaded it on the roof.

Seriously though it was a job made easy thanks to the cooperation of many club members who gave up there Saturday morning.

Kids supervising.Maureen was grateful for everyone's assistance - and I am looking to installing the tower in it's new QTH-Phil VK3YB
