Conservation Group
The Conservation Group is a sub-group of the main GFNC committee. The group co-opts other members or persons with specific knowledge to assist in the investigation of particular conservation issues. This group does not have regular meetings, but is convened to deal with individual issues as they arise. Typically, the group meets to discuss an issue and makes recommendations to the committee on the best method to resolve the issue. A written submission is then passed on to the relevant authority dealing with the issue.
In most conservation matters, the GFNC works closely with the Geelong Environment Council. The GFNC often provides the detailed information regarding the items of special conservation significance in a dispute and the GEC tends to fight the political campaigns, often with support from the GFNC.
Issues that have been dealt with lately include:
Threats to native plants due to expansion of golf courses
Possible Transfer of Barwon Water Reserve to Brisbane Ranges NP
Angahook /Otway National Park proposals
CoGG
Env. Management Strategy
