Gavan
Card
(BVA First-Class Honours)
Gavan Card is a
contemporary narrative painter who is always on the search for quirky
subject matter that reflects his appreciation of being free in a unique
country that is Australia.
Research and prepatory drawing sets the subject matter into space so that
colour harmony has the scope to reach its potential. His
series of medium to larger oil paintings looks at the common Australian
dream of living at the coast, as near
to the cliffs and breaking waves as possible, please!!!
Gavan has participated in solo and group exhibitions in Adelaide &
Melbourne since the
mid-nineties and into the 2000s and is represented in private collections in Australia, Korea
and Europe.
"The natural environment and Gavan's own
horticultural background are the starting point for many of his
paintings. The somewhat surrealist images unite man and his
environment by literally merging elements of the natural environment with
the man-made." (quote from Art
Images Gallery)
Ewa Skoczynska-Card
Ewa's approach to her art is to maintain a sense of humour. She
delights in taking objects out of their usual environment and adapting
them to make her own visual language. Whether making jewellery or
other objects, she invariably incorporates words. In our life we are
surrounded by words both printed and spoken and these provide the
inspiration for Ewa's unique items, sometimes playing a minor part in a
piece and at other times the main focus.
