BROWN TROUT

 

Brown trout are a very good sport fish.They can grow to sizes bigger than 10 kg but are commonly 1-2kg.

Brown trout are more of a bottom feeding fish and feed on mudeyes, yabbies, and worms.

Brown trout are an excellent fish to catch and put up a hard fight to the end.

The best ways to catch these fish is to use a long soft rod of 8-10 ft long and line of 2-3 kg. Fishing with an open bail arm improves your catch rate as the fish feels no resistance when it takes the bait.

Using a bubble float or a running sinker are two of the best ways of bait fishing for Brown trout.

Using lures such as minnow type or tassie devils often produce quite a few good fish.

Good locations for Trout are Lake Eildon, Lake Eildon Pondage, Eucumbene, Jindabyne, Lake Purrumbete or the Golburn River.

Tasmania has some exceptional lakes that carry some very big brown trout.

Trout are a good eating fish. Just clean then, wrap in foil with some lemon, salt and pepper and cook.
