Statement of Purpose
The Geelong Community Forum is a community
based initiative which draws together concerned people sharing
a vision of an environmentally sustainable and equitable
future for our region. The Forum exists to facilitate, empower,
resource and link, existing and future groups and concerned
individuals within the Geelong community - a network of
networks - acknowledging and supporting community diversity.
Political Independence
A community's right to self determination
is the key to the fundamental economic, political and social
changes necessary to realise a sustainable future. The Geelong
Community Forum is and will remain a financially and ideologically
independent non-party political organisation.
Participatory Democracy
The Geelong Community Forum is committed to
proactive participatory democracy and grass roots decision
making at all levels of politics. The role of the Forum
is not to direct or replace, but to enhance other community
organisations established around specific environmental,
social or cultural issues.
Opposition to Discriminatory Practices
The Geelong Community Forum opposes all forms
of discrimination. The Forum rejects the anti-people ideology
of economic rationalism.
