Hi Adonia,
Read your message re giving birth prematurely due to placenta previa.
This happened to me in 1991, our baby was stillborn at 22.5 weeks after
13 weeks of bedrest and 9 weeks in hospital because of severe bleeding
and ensuing preterm labour.
We were told this was just bad luck and the problems came from the
placenta previa. A next pregnancy should not be more risky.
However, 18 mo later I was pregnant with Yorick, the placenta was not
previa, and I had exactly the same problems and complications.
Luckily the problems started a few weeks later, so we managed to
hang in there for a few weeks more and Yorick was born at 27 weeks.
After all this the doctors now say I will be extremely likely (80%) to
have similar problems with a next pregancy! (I should add they
probably say 80% because I had a full-term no hitch pregancy
7 years ago, resulting in a daughter.

Hi Everyone!
I haven't posted anything in awhile-been too busy keeping up with my
daughter Taylor (30 weeks 07-16-93). In my intro I asked if anyone had
given birth prematurely due to placenta previa. I received a couple of very
nice responses. The latest thread here seems to involve the issue of having
a second baby after having given birth prematurely in the past. With so
many new "faces" on here I was wondering if any new moms had given birth
early due to placenta previa and if so what has your Dr. said about the
chances of it happening again? (My Dr. says I would be at low risk of it
happening again but thats not what the books tend to say). My work buddies
are sick of hearing me discuss this and say go ahead and do it! ( I
secretly think "what do you know!"... - but they mean well). Anyway, would
you definately switch to a high-risk Dr.for the next pregnancy? Any
thoughts on this would be helpful.
In closing I will add that Taylor is doing great. She was released
from OT and will fall back to once a month PT soon. I can see very subtle
differences in the way Taylor runs, handles stairs (activities that involve
large motor skills). Otherwise she ia a perfectly normal pre-schooler. I
say this mainly to remind anyone lurking out there that "Toots" suffered
from a grade II IVH with subs. hydrocephalus that required a shunt. Anyone
relating please look me up for endless discussions.
Thanks for listening!!!
