Hello everyone,
I thought I would introduce myself as I am new to this mailing list and have
enjoyed reading the many letters I have received since joining.
I am the mother of two boys, Jeremy age 3 1/2 years and Cameron 18 months.
Both of my sons are preemies.
Jeremy was born at 33 weeks gestation, with a low birth weight of 3 lbs. 12
oz. He was noted to have intrauterine growth retardation and repiratory
distress syndrome. He was ventilated for about 3 weeks and lost all of his
lovely hair to the NICU "barber" for his I.V.'s. His only other concern
during his NICU stay was a meconium plug with a transient intestinal
obstruction. The docs watched him closely for Hirschsprung's Disease but
after many enemas he was able to pass the plug. He spent roughly 1 1/2
months in the unit and came home with no noticable medical problems. Today
Jeremy is fairly healthy but small. Many people mistake him for a 2 year
old. He is 30 pounds and 34" tall.
Cameron was born at 35 weeks gestation with severe intrauterine growth
retardation. He weighed in at 3 lbs. 7 oz. He had minimal problems in NICU
and was sent home in about a month. To date he has been healthy. He now
weighs a whopping 27 lbs. and is 33 " tall. No one ever guesses he's a
preemie.
The reason for my sons' early births was Pre-eclampsia which escalated into
HELLP during the first pregnancy. Jeremy was born by induction and Cameron
was a c-section.
I have many questions and concerns I would like to voice but will wait until
my next letter. I would just like to say hello to everybody and hope to
continue reading all the letters as they come in.
