Hello Leslie,
Welcome to the list and hope you find the information you need.
I was sorry to hear you lost one of your twin daughters, and hope
you will be able to overcome your loss, as well as dealing with
Julie's stay in NICU.
I was interested in reading some of the replies to your letter so
far. Over here in Belgium it was absolutely impossible to buy the
Preemie Pampers which the hospital used. Our son Yorick weighed
2kg300g when he came home, and the diapers we could buy were
all far too big. Finally, the hospital allowed us to take a few packs
from their stock, so I suppose we were lucky there !
As for clothes, everything was too big. I tried to shrink the newborn
size clothes by washing them very hot (90oC) and putting them in
the drier, but no luck. Preemie clothes were very difficult to come
by here, so we tried taping and making the clothes narrower.
Yorick tended to get his feet up in the little one -piece suits he had
(his legs would then stay doubled up). A friend knitted the tinies
pair of socks you'd ever seen (dollsize !) and we used to put these
on top of the suit so everything stayed snug.
He needed very small clothes for quite a long time. I think some of
our kids grow quicker than others, and you will have to wait and see.
We kept some of the tiny things, they amaze us when we look
at them now, but gave the rest to the hospital where they
were very happy to have some clothes to dress the babies in.
Preemies definitely look better with clothes on! (I have heard that
at some NICUs babies will not get any clothes until they are out
of the isolette, horror !).
Good luck with your daughter, and let us know how you get on.
Caroline.
