Cynthia,

I heard the same thing in the NICU about girls doing better than boys.  
They also gave me info by race.  I got this information in 1988 but 
here's how it went, from best prognosis to worst:  European-American 
girls, African-American girls, European-American boys, African-American 
boys.  I don't know whether this was anecdotal or whether there was/is 
research to back it up.
