Well gang,
pardon me for jumping on one of my many soapboxes so soon after signing on,
but I can't resist.

Finally, the AAP took a position on baby walkers for reasons other than
safety. Yes, the old walkers with wheels were unsafe as children could take
them down stairs, etc. So companies came out with the saucers. Finally
someone did research and discovered what we suspected. Children who are
placed in baby walkers, saucers, etc before they can pull to stand and cruise
walk later than children who aren't. This is because 1) then legs aren't
ready for weight bearing yet, and 2) they have not developed the trunk and
pelvic stability to be upright so they lean on the walker and continue to not
develop it.

as for Johnny Jump ups, well, its like high impact aerobics for babies, and
also, no development of the trunk and pelvic stability needed to bear weight
on the legs.

Ok, off soapbox.
Peace,
Beth
