preemie-l Walking Rings

I am following this thread with interest. I am opposed to walking rings for a
number of reasons - the main one being the number of head injuries I have
heard about due to the walking ring tipping over. With my oldest child I used to
let him walk in his ring for about 30 minutes a day. He really loved it, then the
wheels caught on a metal strip that is in our kitchen, he came crashing down
straight onto his head, had no way of protecting himself. Luckily, he was not
too badly injured.
Another reason I do not like walking rings is that I have heard from a number of
sources that crawling is one of the most important aspects in a child's
development (therapists can you give me some feedback please?). Evidently,
it helps children develop a sense of distance and how their bodies relate to
space around them, as well as a number of other important factors.
I have nothing against letting a baby use a walker for short restricted times but
do get a bit upset when I see Mom's who put baby in their walker in the
morning and leave them in for virtually all their waking hours.
